Welcome to the Greyhound Rugby Club pitch and function room Booking Site.

We have for hire one full size Adult Rugby Pitch ,two full size Football pitches, one 11 aside football pitch and also the clubhouse is availble for private fubctions .  The full size pitches are charge out at £40 a hour with a minimum booking of 2hrs , the 9v9 aside pitch is per hour at £40.00 minium booking of 2hrs , parking is free but does need reserving as spaces are limited , Changing rooms with hot showers are £15 per room and their are 4 of these . 

The club is free to use during normal opening times but also can be booked for private meetings or functions though out the week. We can offer various catering packages from self catering , tea and coffees to full buffets or curries. Wether it is for business meetings , funeral receptions or parties. The room has available to use a free pool table , 2 dart boards and full size skittle alley , disco lighting . Please call to discuss your needs.

Club History

First formed in 1977 to play against the Ship Inn (Tupsley Rugby Club) in a game as part of the Queens’s Silver Jubilee celebrations. The Ship Inn team was captained by Andrew Preedy, the Greyhound by Christopher Holmes. After the match the two sides combined to form the Greyhound RFC playing Sunday fixtures. Originally playing from Hereford Rugby Club at Rockfield Road, over the years the club has played at various venues but stayed based at the Greyhound Inn until it closed in 1995. We then based ourselves at the Ship Inn, playing where ever we could get a pitch, until 1998 when we joined the City Sports Club giving us our present home. From the start, the Greyhound’s have always played rugby at a very competitive level, playing sides from Wales, Gloucester, Shrewsbury, Worcester, Local Police, Army, Air Force, Fire Brigade, touring sides, Hereford RFC, Ledbury RFC, Bromyard RFC and Luctonians RFC. The club started playing Saturday fixtures in 1997, joining the leagues in the North Midlands, county affiliated to Hereford & WorcesterRFU and after spending 10 seasons in the North Midlands Leagues we switched to the South West section joining Gloucester 3 and after a respectable 4th in our first season, our second season was even more of a success where we finished runners up and got promoted to Gloucester 2. Our third season was a mixed affair. In 2012, the Greyhound moved back into the North Midlands League.

Currently Our Ladies touch and contact rugby team. The Greyhound Ladies rugby team are a happy, sociable, friendly and fun bunch of girls who enjoy playing rugby and have a great laugh together. We are always looking for past players and new players to join us so if you fancy having a go at some rugby then get yourself down to meet us! Smashing it up in the Women’s NC 2 South West (North) League. We train Thursdays from 7pm – 8:30pm at the Hereford City Sports Club.

The mens team are in the process of rebuilding and are looking for new players to join us , we are joining together with local clubs who also have been struggling with fixtures , and will be fielding sides for friendly games though out the remaining of this season .
